There are reports of damage to the rooms and the partial collapse of damaged ceiling tiles inside the Luis Munoz Marin Airport, the busiest airport of the island. An official of the Federal Aviation Administration said the San Juan International Airport was open and functioning normally.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The reported 5.4 earthquake shook the island at 20.00, with an epicenter around the island's southwest coast. U.S. Geological Survey said the quake, the clock at 19.43 (06:43 clock time), insert occurred about 15 miles (25 km) south of San Juan. It was about 64 kilometers deep, the USGS said.
Reports started coming in Twitter within seconds of the earthquake first-person accounts of the walls shake and broken glass. "It took about 30 seconds and it was tough. Some guests got a little scary," Venus said Snow, an employee at the El San Juan Hotel & Casino. She said nothing broken and all the guests were in order.
